Waiting Period

A waiting period is the stretch of time you have to wait after enrolling before your coverage, or a particular benefit within it, actually takes effect. Employer plans, for example, may impose a waiting period before a new hire's coverage starts. If a claim is denied as falling inside a waiting period, confirming the exact dates against your plan documents is the first step in checking whether the denial is correct.
