Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
Also called: PPO
A preferred provider organization is a plan that lets you see providers both inside and outside its network, usually without a referral, though you pay more for out-of-network care. The added flexibility typically comes with higher premiums than more restrictive plans. Because out-of-network care is only partly covered, PPO members can still face balance billing and larger cost-sharing.
